The President of Thrace-Tailteann is elected every ten years. The Presidency is mainly a ceremonial role and is non-political party based. The President signs into law bills approved by the legislature, greets visiting dignitaries, and opens and addresses new sittings of Parliament. His Excellency Gunnar Olafson is the current President. A former Christian Democratic Leader in Parliament, he served as a legislator for thirty-eight years before his election as President. He is well-known in the region for his devotion to research and equality issues. The President has an LLB from the Labyrinthine Catacombs College of Law and worked as a solicitor while in Parliament. He is Honorary President of the Thracian Law Society, as well as Honorary Chairman of various healthcare and research groups. He is married to Eileen Brady and has two children, both solicitors. Minister for Defence and Foreign Affairs, Gunnar Svenson, is his nephew. He lives in his official residence, Ardbally House, in Grandnexus City. |
